Job Summary:
The Maintenance Technician will assist the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC) with creating and maintaining the United States Prompt Diagnostic System (USPDS) which falls under the National Technical Nuclear Forensics (NTNF) mission. The NTNF leverages AFTAC to detect, identify, and characterize nuclear events and to report nuclear forensic information to national authorities. The USPDS is a fully integrated, terrestrially based, geographically dispersed, centrally managed prompt detection and reporting system.

Job Summary:

Responsibilities:
- Read blueprints and technical drawings.
- Install, maintain, repair, test, and replace wiring, sensor systems, associated processing and control systems using test devices while following all local, state, and federal regulations regarding electrical standards.
- Resolve installation, repair, overhaul, and modification problems associated with field equipment.
- Collect, process, transmit, and analyze forensic data phenomena.
- Perform field and back-shop maintenance on (air pressure and seismic) sensors, (Optical, RF, and Gamma) sensors, and processing and communications systems.
- Perform field maintenance performed at equipment locations across the continental United States. Equipment is located below ground in basements or vaults, inside small spaces such as attics, and on rooftops.
- Perform intricate alignment and calibration procedures to ensure maximum operating efficiency.

- Analyze construction and operating characteristics of equipment to determine the source of malfunction.
- Follow, maintain, and suggest corrections to technical documentation IAW USAF, AFOSH, and OSHA standards.
- Post entries on maintenance and inspection records, and complete maintenance data collection forms while accounting for, and turning in supplies and material.
- Provide assistance with intra-site and long-haul communications to include SATCOM, terrestrial, and wireless networks.
- Test installed equipment for proper assembly of components and compliance with technical instructions.
- Unpack, inspect, and position communications equipment; erect antennas; and interconnect communications facilities.
- Check equipment for service ability prior to installation to include assembling, connecting, securing, and interconnecting components, erecting antennas, and interconnecting cabling.
- Refer to plans and equipment specifications to conduct site and equipment surveys and establish equipment systems interface.
- Follow maintenance documentation procedures by filling out tags and forms regarding equipment serviceability, repair actions, inventory and configuration management, and material deficiencies.
- Maintaining inspection and maintenance records by updating maintenance data collection database.
- Provide assistance with intra-site and long-haul communications to include SATCOM, terrestrial, and wireless networks.
Requirements:
- Must be a US citizen.
- Must have normal color vision.
- Must have a valid U. S. issued driver's license.
- BA/BS with three (3) or more years' experience.
- In lieu, four (4) or more years of relevant experience.
- Active Top-Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
- Comply with OSHA and DoD guidelines and standards to maintain a safe workplace.
- Maintenance management to include records, repair, material, and testing responsibilities.
- Knowledge of DOD and DISA policy.
- Ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
- Strong oral and written communications skills, in addition to interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
- The ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions furnished orally or in writing.
- Knowledge of/or working experience with command line, documented Linux or Unix training, or a Linux or Unix certification
- Successful background and drug screening check.
Preferred Requirements:
- United States Prompt Diagnostic System (USPDS)Experience.
- Field equipment operates on a Linux platform so knowledge or practical experience and/or Linux/Unix certification.
- PDO Experience.
- Commercial network expertise.
- AFTAC experience.
- Knowledge of/or working experience with Linux or Unix platforms.
- Knowledge of intra-site and long-haul communications to include SATCOM, terrestrial, and wireless networks.
